the seasons don't let you get too comfortable. i have greatly appreciated living in a place where all 4 seasons show their faces. it provides variety and breaks up the routine. this is not to say that i don't get sick of a season and wish it away when it's on its last leg. this is to say they keep me on my toes.
it's funny to be in the stage of life where fluctuation abounds. living situations, roommates, good friends, and jobs rush in and out like businessfolk through a revolving door on Wall Street. many moments are spent planning for the next. it hardly gives me time to catch my breath.
in the past, i have tried to stay unattached to everything, for fear it will get swept up in this giant sea of change. this has proven impossible. it is the innate function of the human heart to attach, and eventually, to love. i love people. i love places as a result of who and what they are attached to. i love music because of the emotions it stirs about my experiences and relationships within society.
i don't like change, but i know it's good for me. it lets me grow. though the seasons change, the constant is the fact that they do change, and come back each year. instead of living each season in anticipation of the one to come, i will appreciate the march days winter still asks me to watch her snowflakes glide across the road. i hope i can do the same with people. i will save room in my heart for those people and things that rush in and out, taking a bit of me with them, and i receive some of them within me. i know that if, instead of going in or out, they choose to revolve, they will bring the same joy the first tullip of spring evokes. But, if they do not, they will be a beautiful bulb within my heart's soil, hibernating in the warmth until later seasons. and that's just fine with me.
"There is no season such delight can bring,
As summer, autumn, winter, and the spring."
William Browne
